Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day! A happy day to anyone reading who is blessed to be called "Mom."

This is technically my first Mother's Day as a mom, althought last year on this day I was about 13 weeks pregnant with sweet Olivia. So that kind of counts. Of course I have 31 years of celebrating my wonderful mother! There have been lots of thoughts bouncing around in my head this week.

In my job I am honored to work with mothers. Foster mothers, birth mothers, adoptive mothers. Just lots of mothers.

I spend my days with women who have willingly taken on the role of "mom" to little ones who can't be with their own families for reasons out of their control. These foster mothers sacrifice so much of themselves so that little children will know and experience the love of a mother and the love of the Lord. Foster mothers exemplify the idea of laying down oneself for others.

I spend my days with women who are not yet mothers but dream of being, or women who are mothers but hope to grow their family through the gift of adoption. Whatever reason that they come to our agency, our adoptive mothers are a blessing! Adoptive parents understand love in such a deep way and their families paint a picture of our place in the family of God!

I spend my days working with women who for one reason or another find themselves pregnant with a child they don't feel they can raise. These courageous women make the hardest choice of all. Society that tells them that abortion is cool and glamorizes being a single mother. But they have searched their hearts and know that the gift of adoption is the most loving thing they can do for their child.

I just love mothers and I love working with mothers. Not every mother is like me and there is not another family on earth that will be just like mine. But I am inspired to see women making an eternal impact on their children through love.
