I believe in adoptions of all sorts -- private domestic, through foster care and international. I believe in adoption for all kids who are without families. I believe that children inherently have the right to a family, regardless of their circumstances.
Adoption is not perfect. If things were perfect, all families would be healthy and able to raise the children born to them. But for a variety of reasons, that is not always the case. And in circumstances where birth parents can't raise a child, adoption has always been an option. As far back as the Bible. Think: Moses.
So, adoption is Bible basics. We just aren't very educated about it.
It is my observation that most who are disconnected from adoption (they haven't adopted, don't know people well who have or are unfamiliar with the "adoption world") generally believe in the idea of adoption. But some understand that so many children are truly without families. They also feel that they could never adopt and don't know how to touch or help with the issue if adoption (or fostering) is not an option for them.
I desire to write somethings about adoption and this seems like a good place. Perhaps these thoughts will be shared or someone will be stirred about adoption by something they read here. If nothing else, I will use this area to speak what I believe to be the Lord's heart about adoption.
Over the next few weeks I plan to write about: domestic adoption, foster care and waiting children in the US, international adoption (which tends to be somewhat controversial), and how to help biological families stay together or reunite. Maybe other topics. And to highlight some specific Oklahoma adoption and foster care initiatives, including The 111 Project and Christian Services of Oklahoma. I will be writing as an adoption professional and a Christian. I am not writing as a foster or adoptive parent, since I am not one. I know a lot about adoption and foster care, but I don't know it all. I am on a journey. I am still learning. These will be my thoughts and observations.
If you don't like adoption, you might want to avoid this blog. On the other hand, you might want to stick around. Maybe the Lord will stir something in you.
